A Special Holiday Treat At Lincoln Center

lincoln_center_pa_v3_460x285

This Holiday Season, The Juilliard School of performing Arts is giving their guest a special Holiday Treat!!

Free Juilliard Performances

Heading to Lincoln Center for world-class performing arts? Good news for you, many of the performers you’re paying to see started out just next door at Juilliard, and all of them spent a good chunk of their time performing for free at recitals open to the public. These free performances range from Jazz, Chamber Music, Orchestral, Solos, Dance, Opera and Drama.

For a full schedule of the wide variety of performances, click here to visit Juilliard’s calendar of events.

When you’re at Lincoln Center, stick around for a free performance by the new fountain in the center of the plaza. Designed by the same people who brought you the waterworks at Vegas’ Bellagio, the fountain’s 353 nozzles are able to shoot water 40 feet in the air to create an “aquatic ballet.”

Enjoy!!

En Route To The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Balloons are paraded down 7th avenue during the 83rd Macy's Thanksgiving day parade in New York

It’s that time of year again!

Before we sit down with family, friends, and loved ones there’s one thing that is a MUST DO here in NYC during the Holiday season… The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Bring the children, or your inner child, and watch dozens of cool floats make their way to Macy’s in Herald Sq.

Staying at The Seton Hotel for the holiday season? Great! Lucky for you, we are less than 15 mins away by subway to the Parade!! If you decide to walk, you’ll be looking at a 20 minute walk to Central Park West, where the Parade begins.

gary718-Shutterstock.com--1024x596 121120_SCI_ParadeBalloons.jpg.CROP.rectangle3-large

Where to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

There are three recommended stretches or spots on the route for watching the parade: the first leg along Central Park West, Time Warner Center and, finally, along Sixth Avenue between Central Park South and 38th Street. The section from 38th Street to Herald Square and Macy’s department store is the telecast area and closed to the public. While there is limited space for viewing along the south side of 34th Street between Broadway and Seventh Avenue, the sight lines are seriously compromised by cameras, lights and scaffolding.

Central Park West: Viewing starts at 75th Street (two blocks down from the official start of the parade) and is only open to the public on the west side. Central Park is closed for invite-only grandstand seating. The parade runs along this stretch from 9–10:30am, so early birds who don’t mind turning up at 6am to snag a prime spot should flock here.

Time Warner Center: The Shops at Columbus Circle open at 9am on Thanksgiving Day. From the second and third floors of the mall, you’ll enjoy an elevated view of the parade streaming down Central Park West. As an added bonus you’ll also get to see the Holiday Under the Stars light display. Twofer!

Sixth Avenue: The floats and balloons reach Sixth Avenue at about 9:30am, so arrive at this 21-block portion as late as 7am and you should still find a good spot.

Need directions? Stop at the Front Desk, and our concierge will be delighted to map it out for you! 🙂

Time Out reports:

” If the usual Halloween rank and file (zombies, vampires, slutty angels) doesn’t set your knees knocking, perhaps this year’s theme, based on real-life events and the disgusting state of NYC’s subways in the ’80s, will. You’ll jump at the sight of demented, mutant transit creatures sitting next to you on the bus. Maybe you’ll even be chosen to join the Mole People on their journey around the graffiti-ridden railways. And be on the alert for frights based on urban legends just realistic enough to freak you out—everything from alligators in the tunnels to disgusting super-rats.You know, all the stuff that was no big deal in 1983 when Manhattan was truly grunge.”
